Nirant Ghar

A Comfort Home for the Homeless

The strongest root of Indian culture is its family system. Moral values, care, concerns, brotherhood, and a sense of sharing are nurtured in the family structure. However, for various reasons, thousands of people are separated from their families and deprived of family-like care. Some have left their families or some families have abandoned their members. Not only in Gujarat, but across the country, we found numerous examples of family apathy and social and government sympathy.

Thousands of people, be it elderly individuals, newborn babies, women, or people suffering from mental, physical disabilities, and terminal diseases, are facing homelessness for one reason or another. There are hundreds of orphanages for children and newborns, shelter homes for women, and senior citizens homes (elderly people care homes) in the country that are managed and maintained by either government agencies or voluntary organizations providing food, shelter, and human care to these groups.

Anubandh sees this situation as an opportunity to build a new family beyond blood relatives. We want to work in accordance with India’s message of “Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam” (which means – The whole world is one family).

How about having a home where all these needy and homeless groups would live together? To answer this question, we at Anubandh are working towards creating a facility where all the needy and homeless people can live together under one roof as a family. Elderly people can share their vast experience with the young people, and young people can take care of elderly people.

We are witnessing such synergy at Nirant Ghar. It is heartening to see that when people subtracted by their families meet and live together with their unknown counterparts under one roof, the positivity and human emotions only multiply, and their social stigma and pain are reduced.

Nirant Ghar is home to people with mental, physical disabilities, blindness, bedridden elderly people in need of medical assistance and care, women victims of domestic violence, women with children facing any difficulties and do not have a place to live. All can live at Nirant Ghar with joy and comfort until their family issues are resolved. They support each other in their daily works. They take care of each other and sometimes they also sort out their differences with small squabbles, just like any other Indian family.
